Stringent new rules on alcohol are set to be introduced including health warnings on bottles, and visualising a pint while behind the wheel being enough to put you over the drink-drive limit.
“There is a dangerous level of alcohol abuse in this country,” said Hilary Newman, spokesperson for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Alcohol Misuse. “And it must be addressed. People should be aware that drinking is wrong and that even thinking about it can kill. This may seem alarmist but we scare because we care. And also because it’s easy.”
The current alcohol epidemic is believed by experts to have begun the day a caveman accidentally let some fruit ferment and has continued unabated to this day. Signs that the UK has a maladjusted relationship with alcohol are everywhere with some workplaces actively encouraging alcohol abuse by providing designated places to drink on site. As seen in the thirteen tax payer subsidised bars and restaurants located within the House of Commons.
