Following their takeover of the computer games firm Mojang, the makers of the popular game Minecraft, Microsoft have quickly started with the branding of the game by releasing their first mod, a helpful paper clip.

“We realised as soon as we took control of Minecraft that the help section was missing a little something,” Satya Nadella, the tech giant’s chief executive said.

“So we have brought back everyone favourite little unwanted helper from the 90s. It will use it’s old slap-dash approach to figure out what you might be doing and then offer you help with something completely different. It will keep the game interesting if anything.”

Early users of this latest mod have found the latest addition frustrating, with some threatening to boycott the franchise should it continue.

Simon Delaney from Harold told us: “I’ve played the game for years so was surprised when attempting to move a block this paper clip offered to help.

“Two hours later I had two CVs and a formal letter to the council written up.”

Microsoft’s Satya Nadella went on to deny accusations that realising this mod so soon after acquiring the game shows they are just after the money.

“We are actually giving away the paper clip helper for free. It will be like Apple giving away the latest U2 album. Whether you want it or not it will just pop up to remind you what really pissed you off in the 90s.”
