Alan Rusbridger: Guardian editor
Flamboyant artist Alan Rusbridger has admitted that the Guardian newspaper is merely a performance art piece that got way out of control.
“I never imagined it would be so popular,” said Rusbridger. “All we do is troll our readers by insisting that everything but everything is sexist and racist and claiming to love the Lib Dems.”
“Some people want a newspaper or its website to keep them informed about world events. I guess our readers want one that fucks them until they like it.”
Asked if he thought if there would be much surprise at his admitting that the Guardian is a show and not journalism Rusbridger shook his head.
“To be honest I think most people rumbled us years ago. I mean how else can you rationally view Polly Toynbee apart from as something provocative but ultimately without meaning?”
