David Cameron has clarified comments he made to a parliamentary select committee about the possibility of fracking in his Witney constituency and other areas around Oxfordshire.
“There are plenty of areas I would be happy to frack,” he explained. “There’s Witney, not Chipping Norton, Carterton, not Chipping Norton, Abingdon, not Chipping Norton, Didcot, Banbury, Oxford itself. In fact there are hundreds of places that aren’t Chipping Norton or its surrounding areas, specifically Dean, I would be happy to frack.”
Asked if the people of Witney would be happy to have a fracking site set up in the middle of their town and if it would cause any damage to his chances of re-election, Cameron said he was certain they would approve.
“Every time I walk down the high street people shout out to me ‘there’s the fracking prime minister’. One constituent even asked me what else I was planning to frack up, that can only be an endorsement.”
