The Queen of Reality TV, Kim Kardashian, is reported to have accepted a role on Coronation Street; television’s longest running soap opera.
According to insiders, scenes have already been filmed in which curvaceous Kim, 33, has been cast as a barmaid and distraction for Steve McDonald, the landlord of the Rovers Return.
Kardashian’s first scene is said to be a classic with the hapless McDonald mistaking the world’s most famous, and very possibly widest, rear end for that of his partner Michelle and giving it a playful slap, only to realise his mistake as Kardashian squeals at the same moment as Michelle enters the bar to interview the prospective new barmaid.
Kardashian’s career change is said to have been prompted by falling ratings on her top show ‘At Home with the Kardashians’. “Kim has been keen to move into acting for some time,” said a confidant. “The producers of Coronation Street have been very understanding and say Kim could be the next Bet Lynch, whoever she is.”
So far, Kardashian has been perfectly behaved with none of the usual celebrity demands for special treatment. “The only concession we’ve had to make is to adjust the Rover’s jukebox so it only plays records by Kayne West,” our informer disclosed.
Although the signing of Kim Kardashian represents a major coup for Granada TV, it is in keeping with the soap’s tradition of famous faces making appearances with stars as diverse as Robert Vaughn, Peter Kay, Norman Wisdom and Status Quo having trod the cobbles over the years.
But can Kim Kardashian act? According to our inside source, this isn’t seen as an issue. “Acting is not necessarily a prerequisite for appearing on Coronation Street,” she told us. “We had that Ian McKellan on Corrie few years back. Despite all those Oscars and BAFTAs he was shite and had no empathy for the role.”
“He didn’t even know what a barm cake was.”
