Conservatives astonished to learn of an unelected second chamber

Just down the corridor you say?

Leading Tory MPs were shocked yesterday, by news that a second chamber of parliament exists, up some steps, round a corner and down the corridor from their own.

Chris Grayling, Leader of the House of Commons, said it was the first he’d heard of the House of Lords but he’d go round and punch some people’s lights out, as long as he can put a set of knuckle-dusters on expenses.

“Now you mention it, that must be why I’m the Leader of the House of Commons and not the Leader of the House. Oh, I’m a bit sad now.”

David Cameron realises his father-in-law is a Baronet and his mother-in-law a Vicountess but thought these were just titles left over from a previous century .

“Samantha’s mother arranged for the only proper job I’ve ever had, with Carlton, but I’m rich. I didn’t know peers could also help the poor. I wonder why they’d do that. Just down the corridor you say?”
